‘SHE SAYS THE THINGS I CAN’T SAY’
The investor said, ‘she goes in and says the things I can’t say. She’s my eyes and ears, someone I can trust, as I can’t always be there.’
The Chairman and owner said, ‘you walked in here and had the nerve to demand a hefty fee, didn’t want to move from your terms or method, and promised us the return we wanted. Can I just say, fair play to you. I rate that. You did it and delivered.’
I loved this phase of work. It wasn’t just one business but three. Different owners, different industries and all under pressure, that needed bringing together and resetting.
I was brought in at board level. Positioning, strategy, commercial direction, the lot. There were internal dynamics to manage, resistance in places, different agendas. Isn’t there always!
Often, that’s where things either stall or get watered down. So it’s always where judgement matters. Making the call, even when it’s uncomfortable, and standing behind it.
We got traction quickly and, more importantly, in a way that actually held. Rapid momentum, measurable growth. That's always the real test. Not whether something works for a month or two, but whether it still stands when the excitement wears off.
